Homemade Almond butter

I was always so fascinated with how to make my own almond butter. I had seen all these people on social media and in the health industry making their own and it looked so easy. After a few extremely bad (aka failed) attempts I finally worked out how to make my own, mainly because I set out to buy a blender that guaranteed it could make almond butter.

This is most certainly not a sponsored ad but just to let you guys know I have a Froothie Optimum 9400.

I have provided a recipe on my instagram that shows how I make my almond butter. I know each blender/processor will work differently, and may not produce the almond butter I make. For example, some blenders can take up to 20mins for the almonds to release the oils to turn into a butter, and require constant side scraping. Whereas others, like mine, take almost no time at all and have the benefit of a tamper therefore no side scraping.

Whatever equipment you're working with here are some basic tips to get you going:

* If the almonds need a bit of liquid to get them creamy add 1 tsp melted coconut oil to get them going.

* I find roasted almonds work best for me as opposed to natural.

* Be sure to check in your manual the quantities your blender/processor will need to make the butter. For example, I can't use anything less than 2 cups of nuts to make mine.

* If you find that making your own almond butter isn't an option just make sure what almond butter you do buy is just that - almonds. The next time you're buying your almond butter check that it is as pure as possible.

Almond butter is so versatile. Use it on some delicious sourdough bread, use it as a dip for fruit (bananas are heavenly with a dollop of almond butter), or use it in cooking (almond butter bliss balls anyone?). And don't be scared to use it as a substitute for peanut butter. I do it all the time and it makes any recipe taste amazing. Also, try it with roasted veggies at dinner. That combination is mind blowing!

How I make my homemade almond butter:

2 cups roasted almonds.

Process for 2-3 mins using tamper to keep mixture circulating.

You will be able to watch as the nuts slowly turn into a sticky breadcrumb mixture and then into a butter.

If I want it smoother and easier to spread I will add 1 tsp melted coconut oil while its processing.

Enjoy,

Melissa x
